Goonhilly Earth Station Branding Launch
We are proud to announce that Hill Langdell is now responsible for the branding, identity and graphic support for Goonhilly Earth Station.
The re-branding of Goonhilly Earth Station marks the start of a project which has been three years in the making. The telecommunications site at Goonhilly Downs in Cornwall will be transformed, with the satellite dishes upgraded and the creation of a space science centre. A link with the University of Oxford will mean new radio astronomy work on the origins of the universe.
Under the plans, the former visitor centre will also be substantially upgraded to transform it into an outreach centre promoting space and space science for visitors, including local residents and schools.
Ian Jones, who heads the new company, Goonhilly Earth Station Limited, said their aim was to support "Missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond".
"After almost three years from concept through complex negotiations to contract it rapidly became apparent that we had concentrated so much on getting the deal signed, that we had missed some important details such as getting our branding sorted out! Not the most important of jobs in many people's estimation, but we knew our project was going to make the news and it was important to give the best impression right at the start. Having used Hill Langdell for our Orbit Research Ltd re-brand a few years earlier we were aware of the major difference in perception that a good brand identity delivers. So, with an impossibly short time-scale we approached Hill Langdell to help us again.
"Despite being given an impossible task, I was amazed that Geoff still adopted a totally professional approach conducting a survey and searches, producing a range of concepts and discussing with us in detail the complexity of the messages we wished to convey. Our audience includes Space Agencies such as NASA and ESA, Universities, Space Companies and the public. We were delighted with the results -- and moreover the reaction and feedback we've received. We already know it's going to make a difference -- we have brand identity that people want to associate with."
Goonhilly opened in the 1960s and was once the world's largest earth station with 60 operational satellite dishes which attracted up to 80,000 visitors a year.
