Hill Langdell Works with Ocean Signal to Develop new Marine Safety Products

Over the past two years, Hill Langdell has worked with Ocean Signal Ltd, new name in communication & safety at sea, to develop their range of SafeSea® GMDSS products.

The team at Hill Langdell worked closely with one of the most highly experienced electronic engineering teams in the marine communications industry, and were responsible for styling the range of SafeSea® products.

The brief was both concise and specific; the SafeSea® products required a strong family aesthetic, the range needed to stand out against the utilitarian look of the competition and, most importantly, each individual product had to set a new benchmark in its field. The specifications set by the Ocean Signal team were precise and far reaching -- this was critical as each product would go through a range of rigorous testing before certification was given.

The range of three SafeSea® products were launched at the SMM exhibition 2010 in Hamburg to high acclaim and released to market early 2011. The SafeSea®  family includes an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon), SART (Search and Rescue Transponder) and Handheld VHF emergency radio which are all requirements of the GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress Safety System).

The company is led by Alan Wrigley, whose involvement with marine communications goes back to the mid 70's when working with Racal Marine on marine HF equipment. Head of the Ocean Signal engineering is one of the world's leading experts in radar enhancement technology, Simon Nolan who leads a strong team. Individually they have designed and developed many market leading products and now, as Ocean Signal, have a vision to provide the very best communication and safety products for today's mariners.

Alan Wrigley, Managing Director, Said, "A distress at sea can easily become a very confusing situation - It is essential that the communication products that are relied upon to ensure location and rescue are easy and intuitive to use. Hill Langdell not only provided superb designs with pleasing aesthetics but also ensured that SafeSea range of products fulfilled this vital objective, which helps to reduce stress at critical times."
